Melita Westerlund - Brecher was born in Finland where she studied at the Free Arts School and the Industrial Arts University where she went to study design. She has lived and worked in Europe, Africa and the United States, including Bar Harbor Maine, where she has been for several years. She possess a variety of creative talents including painting and sculpting in many different mediums and paper making - hand made paper or what she calls "cast paper collage. Melita is intrigued with various materials and her work in welded steel, wood, concrete and aluminum, reflects those interests. Her work can be found in collections and galleries throughout the world and Melita's large scale commissions enhance several schools and public buildings in Maine and Massachusetts.
